How to Apply to Start Your Remedial Massage Career with Q Academy
International students can apply to Q Academy’s remedial massage courses in Australia either directly or through an approved education agent.
Regardless of how you apply, you’ll receive the same high-quality training and student support as our domestic students.
Students can choose between two nationally recognised study pathways:
Diploma of Remedial Massage (12 Months)
Our 12-month Diploma of Remedial Massage program provides the practical skills and clinical training required to start a career as a professional remedial massage therapist in Australia.
Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy Pathway (30 Months)
Students seeking higher-level clinical skills can enrol in our 30-month pathway, which includes both the Diploma of Remedial Massage and the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy.
The Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy is the highest VET qualification in the Australian massage industry and is considered comparable to an Associate Degree, providing potential credit towards selected university health science programs.

Arranging Accommodation
The cost of accommodation in Australia varies from state to state and the cost of renting accommodation while studying can be high. Many international students choose to share accommodation to keep costs down. Most international students choose to rent a home with friends or find people to share with through websites. It is important to stay safe when searching for accommodation or people to share online.

Living expenses
Starting from 1 October 2023, a single international student requires a minimum of AU$24,505 to cover living expenses for 12 months of study. In their visa application, students are required by the Department of Home Affairs to declare they have enough money to pay for travel, tuition, and living expenses for the duration of their stay in Australia.

Application Process
Q Academy recommends that you apply as soon as possible to allow enough time to secure your student visa, flights and accommodation. As a general guide the process is as follows:
STEP 1:
Read across our website and courses page, then make an application to Q Academy as an International Student
STEP 2:
Complete all the enrolment documents including supplying documents to prove your English language proficiency
STEP 3:
Wait for Q Academy to send through an acceptance letter and Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
STEP 4:
Apply for your student visa online via eVisa or directly through an Immigration department office
STEP 5:
Once you have your visa, start making travel and accommodation arrangements at your chosen location.

To meet Q Academy’s English language proficiency requirements, international applicants must demonstrate one of
the following:
Students must provide certified copies of documentation that show evidence the appropriate level of IELTS or equivalent testing has been achieved or evidence of successful completion of previous qualifications as proof of English language ability. This information is kept on student files.
• IELTS 6.0 (overall score), no less than 5.0 in each band
• Pearson (PTE) Academic Score of 50 (overall score)
• Paper-based (PBT) TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 537
English test results must be no more than 2 years old. After provision of scores above, if it is identified that a students’
If english language skills are not proficient, the student may be required to undertake a further test at the students’ cost.
Q Academy encourages the attendance of all classes. Every class and the content within it is important and required for competency within study. All international students must maintain at least an 80% attendance rate for the full duration of the course, otherwise, their student visa may be subject to review and subsequently cancelled.
Q Academy maintains attendance rolls for all international students studying on a student visa are kept on record and makes them available for inspection by regulatory bodies. Any subject-specific attendance requirements are clearly stated in the Subject Outlines.
If at any time it becomes impossible for a VET student studying on an Australian student visa to achieve an attendance rate of 80% for the entire course, they will be issued an intention to report letter which sets out that Q Academy intends to report the student’s unsatisfactory attendance as required through PRISMS. This is a requirement of the National Code 2018 for VET students and a condition of the student visa for VET students.
There is no discretion for Q Academy not to report a student, even if the student has a genuine reason for all absences (such as an illness) and supporting documentation (such as a medical certificate). In these cases, however, Q Academy may choose to provide documentation in order to support the student’s continuation of study.
International FAQs
How do I apply for a Student Visa?
The first step is to have an appointment with our International Studies department. They can help you decide on the best program for your goals, which intakes are available and provide you with the application form. We recommend that you work with a Student Education Agency to support you with your visa application. If you haven’t already engaged with an agency, we can recommend one of our registered agents.
The Australian Department of Immigration have strict rules and application requirements for Student Visas.
Q Academy is not able to apply for your Student Visa application. We process your enrolment and provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE), which you have to submit as part of your visa application via your ImmiAccount with the Department of Immigration.
Can you recommend a student agency?
Yes, we can recommend a recognised student agency for assistance, please enquiry and ask for a reference.
What documents do I need for enrolment?
- To process an enrolment for a student visa, you will need to provide copies of:
- Current passport
- Past study qualifications
- Current visa (if onshore)
- English assessment certificate
- Genuine Student Requirement answers
- Proof of savings
- Overseas Student Health Cover policy
Where are your campuses located?
We have three campus locations for International enrolments.
1) Our largest campus is in Brisbane city about a 7 minute walk from the train station in the trendy James St precinct full of coffee shops and restaurants.
2) Our Gold Coast campus is in the Robina shopping centre, Robina in the heart of the Gold Coast and is easy to reach by trains and buses.
3) The third campus is in Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast. Maroochydore is coastal living and the beach is only a short walk from campus with bus stops close by.

What English level do I need to study with Q Academy?
Minimum English level assessment – IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent PTE)
The Diploma course is a serious learning commitment. It is not just massage skills, you are learning human anatomy and physiology, customer communication, work place health & safety, business, case studies and pathologies… the list goes on!
You will have a schedule to follow, with up to 4-6 subject chapters to complete each week. At-home study and practice is required outside of campus. Be sure to make some time in your week to do this study.
It is also recommend that you review the class content before attending, this will help you understand what you are learning for the day. All the course content (manuals and videos) is available in our Student Management system, this allows you to review content throughout your studies.
When can I start working in massage as a student?
Many students find relaxation massage work whilst they are studying their Diploma course. When you complete semester 1 content (about halfway through your program), you will be job-ready for relaxation massage work.
We have employers who advertise directly with Q Academy.
When you graduate from Q Academy, you will be eligible to register with a Massage Association and purchase Insurance as a Remedial Massage Therapist. You can then register with Medibank and other Private Health Providers and be able to apply for higher qualified Remedial work.
How many days must I study and what will I need to bring to classes?
Your study schedule is two days onsite each week. Full attendance is compulsory.
You will need to supply:
- Your own laptop with wifi access and Microsoft Word
- 4 towels for practical sessions (2 small bath towels & 2 beach towel size)
- Please wear enclosed shoes and Q Academy student shirt (student shirt will be given to you on your first day)
- Lunch and snacks (There is a kitchen onsite where you can keep your food in a fridge. We also have a kettle and microwave)
Is accommodation easily accessible near campus?
Our campus locations are close to major suburbs and shopping hubs. Q Academy does not assist with finding accommodation; however many people refer to accommodation websites such as Flatmates.com or realestate.com.au.
How do I choose which program is best for me to study?
Please book an appointment with the Career Specialist – we have different study programs available, each with a different level of knowledge and learning environment. We can discuss your goals and learning style and help you secure a position in the correct class. You can also visit our campus for a tour!
