In Australia, most professional massage clinics will require you to have a current (HLT52021 or HLT52015) Diploma in Remedial Massage qualification, Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance cover plus a Private Health Fund (Medibank, HCF, BUPA etc) Provider Number, so clinic clients can claim rebates from their health insurance.

The HLT52021 diploma is eligible for government Vet Student Loan funding.

A Relaxation Therapist focuses on helping the body relax and rejuvenate. This can be done through a number of techniques such as Swedish Massage, Thai Massage, Reflexology, Deep Tissue.
A Remedial Therapist can do all of what a Relaxation Therapist can do, plus much more. They will focus more on specific problem areas. A Remedial Therapist will perform range of motion testing alongside Special Tests to figure out the cause of the problem. Once they have figured out if the cause is Muscle, Bone or Nerve related, they can then devise a treatment plan specific to the cause.

How are assessments carried out?
We have both Practical and Theory components.
Practical- You will be paired with another student as your client. The coach will then give you a case study to implement and will ask you questions along the way.
Theory- This can be done through Knowledge checks and Your Turns. They could be devised of multiple choice, short answers or long answers questionnaire.
You will complete assessments at the end of each module. This means assessments will cover smaller chunks of Knowledge frequently as opposed to big final exams at the end.
All assessments are granted 3 attempts.
How interactive is the learning?
We try to make everything as practical as possible. This means even when you are learning the Anatomy and Physiology, we will have you up out of your seat and interacting with your classmates. As an example of how this subject is delivered, we will usually give you a chinagraph pencil and have you drawing the muscles on each other so that you can palpate for the exact Origin and Insertions. We believe in using accelerate learning techniques to allow you to better understand the knowledge being delivered. We ensure to meet all types of learners using Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic learning techniques.
How many study days equals full time?
Full time study is broken into two onsite study days + one at home study day.
Are there set days for study?
Your classes and clinic will be on set days, but you can complete the online study at any time at home. These days are determined with the cohort that your join.
Are clinic days full days?
Yes the clinic days are full days. Depending on the site location you choose, depends on the hours required. But all will be over an 8 hr period.
Within the day, you will be performing a maximum of 6 hrs of massage.
How are Full time Classes taught?
Our full time classes are our Live Taught classes. You will have a course coach at the front of the room instructing you on all of the theory and practical techniques scheduled that day. They will use the standard classroom aids such as power point projections, muscle charts, bone charts, skeletons. This is the tradition Study method.
As you pair up with fellow students for the practical component, the coach will have plenty of time to dedicate to each student in the class to correct posture or technique etc as you learn.
How are E-Classes taught?
This is a live course coach supervised classroom environment, so any questions can be answered immediately, but with each student studying different online lessons, together. It is like doing an online course, but physically onsite, and with a course coach to help. You will have access to all of the theoretical and practical videos to watch and learn from 24/7.
The coach will still live teach the Swedish Massage sequence to you, but all other content will be self-directed.
You will have access to book in for one-on-one assistance with the coach, should you be struggling with a subject.
You will be required to be onsite two days per week once the clinic starts.
The advantage of this study method over online is that you will have access to other students in the class with you to use as a body to practice on. You will also have a course coach in the room to answer any questions you may have throughout the course.
The advantage of this E-classroom study method over Face2Face classes is that you can take breaks for holidays, or illnesses, or work if you are a FIFO or Shift worker and study at your own pace if English is not your first language, so you will never be left behind by a regular F2F class that demands you are there every week and keeping up.
How are Hybrid students taught?
Our Hybrid course is for those students that still want some support but don’t have
the time to be onsite two days per week. You will study the course online at home, but will have access to come onsite in the E-classroom once per month. You will also be able to book in some one-on-one revision sessions during your studies and will have access to email assistance during business hours.
You are only required to be onsite when you begin the clinic module. This could be scheduled weekly or in blocks depending on availability in the specific location.
How does on campus learning compare to Online study?
Support. The online course will only have email support available and will have delayed responses. Online students do not have access to the onsite support.
The online course is suitable to students who are good at self-motivation and understanding technology.
You are only required to be onsite when you begin the clinic module. This could be scheduled weekly or in blocks depending on availability in the specific location.
What the difference between Relaxation and Remedial treatments?
Relaxation uses Swedish Massage techniques to provide the ultimate relaxation to a client. This can be performed as a full body treatment, or to specific areas. This technique can still be performed using strong pressure, so it’s not to be confused with a “soft” massage.
Remedial treatments work on a specific problem area, just like a Physio would do. Using a range of special tests and techniques, the therapist is able to pin point the cause of the pain and provide a more specific treatment plan for their client.
What is the difference in content and job skills between the three Remedial Massage Diploma versions of Core Skills & Rehab & Advanced Rehab.
All three diploma versions will give you a broad understanding of the human body. The main difference between them all, are the skills and techniques you will learn.
Core skills is our entry level diploma which delivers the content required to be awarded with the Diploma of Remedial Massage. We then build onto that for the next two programs. Where Core Skills may only learn one special tests per body region, the Rehab and Advanced Rehab courses will cover a lot more special tests for the same region. This makes the Rehab and Advanced Rehab students more knowledgeable on things that can go wrong with the body.
We then build on that further again for the Advanced Rehab and Sports program and provide the extra modalities of Cupping, Kinesiology Taping, Rigid Taping and Working with Athletes unit of competencies. We also provide an introduction into Dry Needling through that program.
You will be able to get work with any of the Diploma programs, however, you will be better equipt to step into the workforce with either the Rehab or Advanced Rehab content.
Having completed the extra modalities in the Advanced Rehab and sports program during your studies, make you more attractive to the prospective employer as you will have more to offer from the get go.
Can I study Online and attend any of the Q Academy campuses just for the clinic?
Our online students are able to attend any of our Q Academy campuses to complete their clinical hours. However, clinic placements will be dependant on space availability at the time for each location. Students are able to complete their hours at different campus locations, should that suit their schedule better.
How can I fast track my course?
To be compliant with Medibank upon completion of the course, you must have completed the course over a minimum of 12 months. There is no benefit to fast tracking the course as it will jeopardise the provider options.
Nearly all job listings will require you to be Medibank compliant. Therefore if you were to fast track the course, you would also be limiting the job opportunities out there.
Should you enrol using a Vet Student Loan, you will also be limited to their Unit of Study dates and therefore can’t fast track the course.
How can I withdraw or defer?
The first step is to have a chat with the College Captain. They will advise you further on all options available to you. Once you have decided what you would like to do with your course enrolment, you will be able to complete the relevant paperwork for processing. All Withdrawal and Deferral paperwork is accessible 24/7 through the website.
Can I swap between the remedial diploma versions of Core Skills. Rehab or Advanced Rehab?
Downgrading is easier than upgrading through the programs due to the financial aspect of the course, so we would always recommend making a conscious decision before enrolling.
There is however, a time frame where we can adjust your enrolment throughout the course. Once the advanced content has begun, we can no longer upgrade you at that point.
What is the difference in my career and work opportunities if I just do the CIV in Massage or the Diploma of Remedial Massage?
It is very difficult to get work with just a Certificate IV in Massage. It’s not impossible, but you would be extremely limited.
As the Diploma is the standard entry level qualification, this is now the sought-after skill required in the workforce.

What if I go away, can I have time off?
There are study breaks throughout the course, so ideally any holidays will be planned during this time. However, should you need leave outside of what is scheduled (within reason), we can have a look at some make up sessions for you. This may be by joining another cohort at a later date, or by doing one-on-one sessions with a coach.
It is a Government requirement that you are attending a minimum of 80% of the course.
What happens if I miss a class?
We have make up classes available providing the schedules line up with other cohorts. Or we can book you in for some one-on-one sessions with a course coach.
One-on-one sessions with the coach are to prove the knowledge and understanding you have after watching the content online at home prior to the session.

Yes, for onsite students, the second attendance day each week, will be dedicate to your clinic hours.
For online students, you will complete your clinic hours in batches throughout the 12-month period.

No, each campus has a large client database which makes it relatively easy to get bookings. However, please feel free to bring along your friends and family to support you in this part of your journey.
We can not guarantee that clients won’t cancel the appointment last minute. Friends tend to keep the appointment.

- Study support with our qualified team
- All workbooks and study materials

- The college provides all of the oil and towels to be used in clinic.
Are there additional costs?
There are no additional costs unless you opt in for private tuition or loose any of the materials given to you on the first day. Everything is included in the course fee.
Can I pay the full course fee upfront?
We don’t take the full course fee up front. Instead we have it set up in a “pay as you go” situation. This way, should you need to make any changes to your course throughout the 12 month period, you would have only paid for the content you have already received.
For self funded students, this is paid in monthly instalments. For Vet Student loan students, the debt is accumulated every two months.
Do you have a payment plan?
Our self-funded students make monthly payments for their course fees. This is not via a direct debit, instead we send out an invoice to you each month for you to pay either via bank transfer or by EFTPOS whilst onsite.
When do I pay back my Government student debt (VSL)?
The government will assess your student loan debt at the end of each financial year. You are only required to make repayments once you start earning over the current threshold amount. This amount changes each year, so please ensure you know what this amount is before taking on the loan. The sales team will be able to discuss the current amount with you.
The repayment is then usually taken from your tax return based on a percentage that you are earning over the set threshold amount. If you don’t earn over that amount, no repayment is required at that time.
You are welcome to set up a payment plan with the government at any point, however.
