To convenience students outside of South-East Queensland, you may be able to complete some of your training hours through a Virtual or Secondary Clinic (North Sydney & Melbourne). We do our best to make this as convenient as possible, by breaking your clinic training into blocks that can be spread out over the duration of your course, or into one consecutive block, to best suit you and your situation. How Studying Online Works

Learning Platform

You will be given access to a digital manual made up of short, informative videos. All lessons are engaging and presented by our experienced course coaches.  It will guide you through both the practical and theoretical material in a logical and easy-to-follow sequence that can be completed anytime.

Learning Support

The online team will be there to support you throughout the full journey. You will be introduced to your course coach via Skype, and this coach will be your tutor throughout the course. You will also be invited to our online community where you can interact with other online students.

Assessments

You will complete the majority of both theoretical and practical assessments online. The theoretical assessments will be completed through our learning platform, Cloud Assess, and practical demonstrations are to be completed in your Skype sessions with your course coach.

Workload

Once enrolled, we will give you a schedule with key milestones. We recommend you allocate 9 hours of study per week to stay on track. It is a self-paced course, so if you are dedicated and proactive, it is possible for you to move through the course content quicker.

Clinical Practice

Once you have completed the online course content, the final step is to complete your practical training hours. This is a necessary step, to show that you have understood all that you have learned. You will be invited to one of our primary clinics (Brisbane, Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast) or secondary clinics (north Sydney or Melbourne), to complete your supervised practical training hours. 60-200 hours of practical training hours is required, depending on your course of study.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q Academy is providing Australian’s living in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide with the opportunity to study a Diploma of Remedial Massage therapy online through our platform, NetQ.

We also offer a range of other online courses including a Certificate IV in Remedial Massage and short courses.

In terms of current attitudes towards private health insurance, there is research to suggest that the number of Australians deciding to walk away from private health insurance is actually on the rise. In APRAs quarterly report for March 2019, data shows that only 53% of the Australian population has General Treatment cover, which includes Dental, Optical, Physiotherapy and Remedial Massage, and Chiropractic (APRA, 2019). With the increase in premiums for private health insurance, younger and healthier people are either choosing to decline private health insurance completely, or being driven out of the system altogether. According to Citi Analyst, Nigel Pattaway, “there doesn’t seem to be enough attraction for young people to come into the system per se” (The Age, Pg 4-5, 06/07/2019). This sentiment is similarly supported by Roy Morgan, the research firm, who found that just 43% of 25-39 year-olds with private health insurance regarded it as essential, compared to 68% of 60-69 year-olds (The Age, Pg 4-5, 06/07/2019).

  • Personalised Support – You will have a course coach assigned to you when you enrol. They will be there to guide and support you through your journey.
  • Online Community –  Learning online doesn’t have to be lonely! Join our online student community group, and interact with your peers and your course coaches. Keep each other motivated, ask questions and have a discussion.
  • Expertly Developed Learning – All of the course materials have been specially developed so that you receive the information in short 5-10 minute videos, to break the content into easy to understand lessons. At the end of the videos, you will complete a quick knowledge check, to make sure you were listening! You can replay lessons (and knowledge checks) as many times as you like. You will also complete theory assessments from your online dashboard, and practical assessments via Skype with your course coach.  You can sit lessons, complete assessments, receive feedback and check your progress anywhere, anytime!
  •  Clinic Support –  Student Clinic is the culmination of all that you learn in your program.  To ensure we have provided you with all the skills and knowledge you need to enter the massage industry successfully, it is a requirement that you complete some clinical training hours in one of our primary clinics (Sunshine Coast, Brisbane or Gold Coast), or one of our Virtual or Secondary clinics (North Sydney or Melbourne). This will give you the opportunity to perfect your skills and get experience treating a range of clients with varying conditions.

You have access to the same learning material as Q Academy’s on-campus students. You will be given access to a digital manual, where you will have some light readings as well as short, interactive videos presented by one of our experienced course coaches. These classes are embedded into your manual as micro lessons.  This material takes you through both the practical and theoretical material in a logical and easy to follow sequence.

In addition, you will receive one-on-one Skype sessions with our trainer and assessor to help you prepare for assessments.  In these Skype sessions you will have the opportunity to ask questions, demonstrate your treatments and receive immediate feedback, all in the comfort of your own home.

There will be a mix of knowledge-checks, theory assessments and practical assessments. Knowledge-checks will be completed as you go through the online lessons. Theory assessments will be completed via our online platform, cloud assess. You will also have Skype sessions with your course coach to demonstrate understanding and competency.

At the final stage of the course, you will be required to complete supervised practical training hours. We have different options for students to complete the final part of their study, to best suit individual needs. If you want to meet the current guidelines to be recognised by the majority of health funds to be eligible for private provider numbers, we have an option that will suit. If being able to offer health fund rebates is not a priority, and you would prefer the flexibility of minimal on-site course requirements, then we have an option that will still meet all the national training requirements. We would recommend speaking with one of our Online Career Specialists to see which option may be right for you.

As the majority of your training, assessment and support is delivered online, you’re required to have a computer or tablet with internet capability to access the program.  Your computer or tablet should also have a camera to allow you to participate in your one-on-one Skype sessions.  In addition, we recommend a good quality massage table.  Firm ‘n’ Fold or Athlegen have a wide range of quality tables.  For more individualised advice please speak to your course coach.

Q Academy will provide you with on oil bottle and holster as well as a student uniform shirt for you to wear during your on-campus clinic training.
